‘Tontu’ is bred at the Polli Horticultural Research Centre by Kalju Kask. It is grown from the seed of open pollinated (1978) ‘Norri’. Registered as new cultivar since 18.03.2009.

Ripening time: early midseason.

Cherry is large, heart shaped. The skin is dark red. The flesh is dark red, soft, juicy, sweet and sour, very tasty. The juice is dark red. The stone can be easily separated from the flesh.

Tree is vigorous, with upright crown. A good bearer, selfunfruitful, pollinated by ‘Leningradskaja Tšornaja’ and ‘Arthur’. Winter hardy. Disease resistance is good.
